I am completely torn as to how to review our recent stay at the Tradewinds Island Grand Resort in St. Pete Beach, FL
Was it pet-friendly? Well, yes and no. I have never stayed at a pet-friendly hotel or resort who had so clearly gone above and beyond with regard to their pet-related amenities. The Tradewinds Island Grand created a 'Pet Play zone'; a fully fenced in dog area for play complete with grass, brick patio, water fountain, toys, double gated entrance, tables, chairs and umbrellas. The Play Zone is a gorgeous little dog park right on the property at the resort. In addition, the Tradewinds Island Grand clearly marked on the brick walkways, with white paw prints, where all of the pet-friendly areas of the resort were located. Their pet amenity welcome bag was adorable and included a folding water bowl, coupon for doggie room service, a couple of treats, a plastic dog tag, a frisbee, and a bandanna for your pups collar. All very thoughtful!
However, somehow in trying to include the dogs in your vacation, the Tradewinds Island Grand made me, as a guest traveling with a pet, feel very excluded. I know, it's counter-intuitive. But by specifically declaring the pet friendly areas of the resort, I was excluded from going on o the beach, dining in any of the resort restaurants or even walking through or around the resort. with Beau. We were relegated to the small pet-friendly area of the resort, which was such a disappointment because the beach was beautiful. It was also such an awful tease for Beau to be able to see the beach and not be able to go there...Beau loves the beach!
In the final analysis, I guess I would have to say that the Tradewinds Island Grand Resorts pet program was much like the beach from our room..so close, and yet so far.
