Carl Levin is the AIPAC Champion

This week I am launching my new, personal, news analysis website, Policy Wonk, so all of the articles this week will be from Policy Wonk.

You will be able to see shorter articles here, the full length pieces will be featured on Policy Wonk.

Among the many lobbyist groups in Washington, one stands out as an incredibly powerful and influential force in policy making.

Among lobbyists, AIPAC, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, sits at the helm of the Israel Lobby. This group is single-handedly the reason for the over-the-top Israel bias in Congress.

How do they do it? By supporting candidates in almost every Senate and Congressional race. Some members of Congress, however, receive much more than others thanks to their pro-Israel, anti-Islam stances.

Here are the top 10 members of Congress who are in AIPAC's pocket based on their lifetime Pro-Israel lobby campaign donations in their career and in 2008.

Senate:
1) Carl Levin (D-MI): $728,737 ($69,850 in 2008)
2) Tom Harkin (D-IA): $552,950 ($32,000 in 2008)
3) Arlen Specter (R/D-PA): $503,473 (DNR in 08)
4) Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ): $502,578 ($68,500 in 2008)
5) Mitch McConnell (R-KY): $485,141 ($107,956 in 2008)

House:
1) Shelley Berkley (D-NV): $290,055 ($43,850 in 2008)
2) Eliot Engel (D-NY): $235,418 ($55,500 in 2008)
3) Mark Kirk (R-IL): $221,082 ($91,200 in 2008)
4) Steny Hoyer (D-MD): $193,275 ($54,000 in 2008)
5) Eric Cantor (R-VA): $176,230 ($47,500 in 2008)
