It’s Tour de Fat time again in Boise. This year’s theme is Superstars and Superheroes, so don your capes, glove, or leather leisure suit and join two thousand or more other bicyclists this Saturday, August 22 in Boise at Ann Morrison Park. New Belgium Brewery’s “ballyhoo of bikes and beer” returns to Boise for the seventh time to promote cycling for fun and transport as well as their beers.
In addition to a bicycle parade and live entertainment the Tour de Fat will once again select a person who is willing trade their car for a bike for a year. A funeral procession (called Carpocalypse Now) will take place at 1:30 PM.
The tentative schedule, according to the Tour de Fat’s Facebook page, will be:
9:00 a.m. - Bike Parade Registration
10:00 a.m. - Bike Parade
11:00 p.m. Performances Begin
1:30 p.m. - “Carpocalypse Now” – Funeral procession for the car belonging to the Car-for-Bike Trade volunteer
3:30 p.m. - Car-for-Bike Trade Celebration
4:00 p.m. - Curtain Closes
The event is free, but beer tokens can be purchased for $5.00. New Belgium Brewery will donate all of the proceeds from Boise’s Tour de Fat to SWIMBA and The Treasure Valley Cycling Alliance. Volunteers from The Boise Bicycle Project will also be on hand to collect bicycle parts. New Belgium Brewery has donated over $1 million to non-profit organizations since Tour de Fat started in 2000. Registration for the bike parade is required. A registration form can be downloaded by clicking here.
