July 4thAre you in the mood to be festive this July 4th? Here are some ways to color up your food:

Cupcakes:
Start with white icing and separate it into three equal parts. Color one part with red food coloring and the other with blue and leave the third white. There you have it, red, white and blue cupcakes.

Cake:
Bake a white cake.
Take one box of blue Jell-O and one box of red Jell-O. Dissolve each box in 1 cup of boiling water. Poke holes in cake with a fork. Pour liquid Jell-O over the cake. If you are using a 9x13, do blue on one side and red on the other. If using 2, 9 inch round cakes, do one with blue and the other with red. Ice with white icing. Now you have a red, white and blue cake. Stick unlit sparklers into cake and let them stick out for a festive effect.

Bake a yellow cake in a 9x13 pan.
Cover with white icing. Using blueberries, make a square in the upper left corner. Using strawberries, make lines across the cake. Now you have an American flag cake! You can even add mini white marshmallows between the strawberry lines!

Cookies:
Using a round, metal pizza pan bake a large sugar cookie. Use packaged sugar cookie dough or make your own from scratch. Cover with white, red or blue icing and decorate with fresh blueberries, strawberries and cherries. You have a Fourth of July cookie cake!

Jell-O:
Take one package of red Jell-O and one package of blue Jell-O. Also have a container of cool whip, thawed.
In a 9x9 or 9x13 pan, prepare blue Jell-O as directed on package. Let it harden in refrigerator. Then prepare red Jell-O as directed on package and pour over blue Jell-O. After red Jell-O is hardened cover with cool whip. You have so easily made, “flag”
Jell-O!

Brownies:
Bake your brownies in a 9x9 or 9x13 pan. Cover with white icing and sprinkle heavily with red, white, blue and silver sprinkles or candies.

Utensils:
Tie red, white and blue ribbons around all of your metal serving utensils for a festive look.

Purchase red, white and blue paper or plastic plates for serving. Add colored napkins for an even more festive look.
