Gonzales told reporters before Tuesday's game in Washington that the team would use pitcher Josh Johnson as a pinch hitter to compensate for the positional shortage. The team's next off-day is Aug. 17.
The Marlins did get a boost Tuesday as they got shortstop Hanley Ramirez back. Ramirez had been sidelines since Saturday after getting hit near the knee by a Carlos Zambrano pitch.
