It certainly is not orthodox, but Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez understands what a stretch of 13 consecutive games can do to a pitching staff, particulrly in August. Thus the Marlins likely will go with 13 pitchers and just four positional players over the next few weeks, according to the Palm Beach Post..
Gonzales told reporters before Tuesday's game in Washington that the team would use pitcher Josh Johnson as a pinch hitter to compensate for the positional shortage. The team's next off-day is Aug. 17.
The Marlins did get a boost Tuesday as they got shortstop Hanley Ramirez back. Ramirez had been sidelines since Saturday after getting hit near the knee by a Carlos Zambrano pitch.
