As your National Mental Health Examiner, I am officially asking, pleading and begging for A National Mental Health Day I've dubbed "Holiday for the Honest". On this holiday, I'm pleading for our entire nation, including most of the Republican and Democratic parties, politicians, politicians' wives, children, and lovers (this includes Rush Limbaugh and John Edwards) to hold hands and come forth for our nation's forgiveness, blessing and a spanking. Whoops! I meant renewal of faith and trust.
Can we as a nation be honest for one whole day? What would the consequences be if our business leaders, economic leaders and media were honest for a day? Can you only imagine the backlash? Keep in mind, there is just as much manipulation in honesty as dishonesty. But if we claim a moratorium on dishonesty for a day, imagine how our next President elect will spend his first year in office.
I want to thank my government for giving me the opportunity to make my plea as an American voting psychotherapist. My only hope is that for once we can actually say what we mean, take responsibility for it and take action. Then maybe our mental health issues will no longer result in America being called "the Prozac Nation".
