Just days before the beginning of the 2008 Summer Olympic games, an animal rights group staged a risky press conference in Beijing to launch an anti-fur campaign that is likely to be the talk of the Olympic village.

Featuring Olympic gold medal swimmer Amanda Beard, the poster reveals Beard's nude body standing before the American flag with the caption "Be Comfortable in your Own Skin. Don't Wear Fur." (She is wearing her swim googles.)

But Reuters said Chinese officals cancelled the press conference at the last minute. Beard, not wanting to be silenced, held her poster and talked outside the Olympic Village's south gate. China has a thriving fur trade, but not a thriving democracy, so freedom of speech on such an issue is unlikely welcome.

"I have seen a lot of the videos, and (it) brings me to tears," the four-time Olympian was quoted saying in a PETA statement. "What (some people) think is pretty is actually something that's very gruesome and gross."

No stranger to bearing it all, Beard seems to be working for causes close to her heart. "I have a couple of dogs at home," she said. "They are my life. If I could get more dogs, I would."

What do you think? Has she gone too far for her cause or is this a great way to make a point?
