Be it oozing from a cake, enrobing a bit of candy or even adding the rich low base of goodness to a mole sauce - chocolate is long recognized and proclaimed globally as an eternal "fixer upper".
Fixing lives is what both the Tahoe Women's Services and Project MANA both excel at by removing domestic violence and hunger from someone's life.
Their joint mission is made sweeter with the annual "Chocolate, Wine and Roses event to be held this Saturday, at the North Lake Tahoe Events Center is Kings Beach.
Name the chocolate creation of choice and chances are it can be found at the three hour event - starting at 7:00PM.
Towering tortes, dark chocolate truffles and chunks of chips baked into cookies are just some of the samplings to be be provided by local restaurants and area businesses and chocolatiers.
Genius comes in the pairing of wines as chosen by Master Sommelier Joseph Nase from the wealth of choices being offered by Big Woody, Cossart Gordon Madeira and Row Eleven wineries. In addition several Sierra Foothills samplings will be offered by the Truckee River Winery and two El Dorado wineries - Charles B. Mitchell of Fair Play and Placerville's Gold Hill.
Event participants will also have the chance to vote on a variety of criteria for both the chocolate and wine - ala the best of a Food Ntework Challenge. Additional nibbles include luscious appetizers from Moody's and Baxters such as a grand antipasto featuring marinated vegetables, red wine braised beef and shrimp scampi over creamy risotto.
