Do you remember the Tupperware and Avon ladies at your door? Well, the time of direct sales is back and growing pretty rapidly. Do not be surprised if you start getting evites for product and service promotion parties from your friends and social network buddies. The creativity of direct sales is also changing rapidly. The products and services offered now through direct selling include candles, décor, lingerie, phones, aging products, vitamins and scrapbooking. I’ve highlighted a couple interesting companies at the bottom of this article that provide something other than Tupperware and makeup.

More and more women who have recently been affected by corporate layoffs have turned to direct sales to earn extra money or supplement income loss due to unemployment. They are turning to direct sales to bring in extra cash, from jewelry to cookware to candles, and even scrapbooking! They host parties and demonstrate their products and even recruit others to sell.   This option is attractive when you consider some of the positive benefits of running a direct sales business such as Avon, Mary Kay, Tupperware or PhotoMax. The advantages include:
-the flexibility, and freedom to set your own hours
-ability to use your social networks to market creatively
-ability to use the internet to market yourself
-working from home
However, direct sales companies are not for everyone and it takes a certain personality to succeed in this line of work. Beware of persuasive sales presentations that motivate you into buying expensive business models, and multi-level marketing companies promising huge returns and excessive wealth. Try not to get caught up in the hype unless you are prepared to follow through on the commitment with intensive marketing efforts, and networking. Also, make sure you believe in the product you’re selling otherwise it will be tough to convince others.
Two companies I found interesting are:
1.       Photomax®
Photomax offers solutions for organizing, preserving, and sharing digital photo memories. The Photomax opportunity launched in 2005 and its parent company, NuSkin Enterprises has been in business since 1984. Consultants market online digital and film photo services, photo books, DVDs, and personalized gift items. Benefits of the Photomax / NuSkin Opportunity include up to 30% commission on retail products, a bonus program, a market solution for a growing technology and is backed by an established, publicly traded company
You will need to purchase a starter kit which allows you to market Photomax and all of the products in NuSkin Enterprises' various divisions. More information on direct selling opportunities can be found at www.bigplanet.com.
2.  At Home America
Founded in 1983 by sisters Lisa Brandau and Becky Wright, AtHome America remains a family business today and has extended its family values to consultants, customers, and charitable organizations, including the popular TV show, ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
When you become a HomeStyle Specialist you'll market decorating and gift-giving products at home shows and online.
At Home America is a well-known and well-established company. You begin with 25% commission as a new HomeStyle Specialist. They are offering a free start up kit. Visit their site at www.athome.com to learn more.
