Do you want to start a business that can make a difference in your community?

During this economic downturn many people have may be questioning the ‘bigger picture’ and the real impact of their efforts. What is better than waking up every morning to a career with a purpose?

The term Social Entrepreneurship involves developing innovative new services and technologies that solve pressing social problems.

We have all heard of Venture Capital firms that provide funding and invest in new business ventures and profitable ideas. However, investing in social ventures is a relatively new concept. Social Venture Partners (SVP) is a social enterprise incubator that provides multiyear grant funding and strategic support for this growing field. Los Angeles SVP is part of SVP International. Every SVP is a network of engaged philanthropists who believe that they can have a positive impact on their communities and who use innovative strategies to address complex social issues.

SVP is currently working in LA towards achieving long-term social change by capacity building and expanding philanthropy through education. LASVPs model focuses on utilizing the power of the entrepreneurial spirit and innovation. They support those willing to tackle LA’s toughest problems with long term capacity building initiatives rather than short term projects. The other half of the SVP mission is to expand the community of philanthropists and deepen their commitment to addressing the needs of Los Angeles. Some of the investees include Brightstar Schools, The Tree People, Healthy Child Healthy World and Inner City Education Foundation.
