Dan Mason staying put as CBS Radio chief/CBS

CBS named a restructuring of its local broadcasting operations by extending the contract of Dan Mason as Chief Executive Officer and President of CBS Radio.

Peter Dunn, WCBS-TV President and GM, has been promoted to head of CBS Television Stations with its 29 station portfolio.

In addition, Anton Guitano has been named CBS Radio Chief Operating Officer of CBS Local Media. Guitano will report to President and CEO Leslie Moonves and Mason.

Mason has been with CBS Radio since 2007. As the executive in charge of CBS Radio, Mason will seek to build on the division’s growing ratings and improving financial position.

“Dan is, quite simply, the best executive in the radio business,” said Moonves in a statement.

In April 2007, Mason returned to CBS Radio following a five-year hiatus. In July of that year, he was the architect WCBS-FM’s return to its classic hits format.

“We couldn’t be more pleased that Dan will continue to provide his leadership skills for years to come, joining with Anton and Peter to help make this new local media group a growth engine for CBS,” Moonves said.

Dunn replaces Tom Kane, who sources say was expected to leave the company twice in more than a year. Each time, though, his contact was extended: once for one year and then for 90 days.

Of the veteran Kane’s departure, Moonves said, “Tom has navigated our stations through the roughest economy we’ve known, and he has done so with a sure and steady hand. …It’s been a pleasure to work with him through his time here at CBS, and we all wish him well as he moves on to the next chapter.”
