A Jerry Garcia T-shirt becomes a newborn's sleep gown.
(Bonnie Cornelius)

If your child is too young for the toddler T-shirt dress, you can still recycle those cool old concert T's into gowns for your newborn.

"This Mama Makes Stuff" offers a pattern and sewing tutorial for making these cutie pieces.

Her examples include old T-shirts from The Who, Van Halen and Guns 'N' Roses.

Once you've made your gown, "This Mama" (aka Carrie) requests you upload your creation to her Rockin' Recycled Newborn Gowns group on Flickr.

She offers other ideas for baby gifts: burp cloths, jammies, monogrammed burp cloths, T-shirts, embellished onesies and a blanket tag toy.
