Inspired by the Indie Craft Experience this past weekend, I am planning to branch out and do different types of crafts, not only with my daughter, but on my own.
I was browsing etsy.com for ideas and even more inspiration and discovered pendants made from Scrabble tiles. This isn't the first time I've seen these, but it's the first time I considered making them myself. I haven't tried it yet, but as soon as I can get my hands on some old tiles, I'm testing this tutorial.
Marie LeBaron at Make and Take posts a Scrabble Tile Pendant Tutorial from HomeStudio that details step by step how to make your own beautiful neckwear.
It lists all the supplies and includes small things you might not think of, like choosing your paper wisely since you're working with such a small surface area.
Some crafters are checking their local thrift stores for old Scrabble games, which is the eco thing to do. But if you can't find a Scrabble game at a thrift or consignment store, you can order 100 tiles for $6.50 from Hasbro's Web site.
The comments from readers also offer some ideas about the glaze and how to keep the tile steady while applying the glaze so be sure to check those out, too.
