Cosmetic surgery and its message to young girls

We live in a world that constantly reminds young women to strive for an impossible standard of beauty. Maybe it's from the countless reality shows that highlight the superficial lifestyle of the rich and semi-famous. Or it could be the fashion ads that applaud dangerously skinny models. Either way, plastic surgeons are making astronomical amounts of money because of societies never-ending goal of obtaining physical perfection.
I recently came across one news story involving a plastic surgeon in Germany who says he "built" his ideal wife. Reza Vossough performed a total of eight cosmetic procedures on his wife Cany. Within five years, the woman had her breasts, thighs, eyes, and face altered to suit her husband's preferences.
"When I first met Cany, she had physical deficiencies, but I could see there was something there," said Reza. "She had big hips and big thighs, so we made corrections, then we did a bit more...It's better than nature could do."
Cany seems happy with her shallow spouse, which leads me to believe that Reza did not have to do too much to persuade his wife to go under the knife.
"When your husband is a plastic surgeon, then the scalpel is your friend," said Cany.
Plastic surgery has seeped its way into mainstream culture. A little nip/tuck is considered a norm. For instance, an English woman by the name of Sarah Burge holds the Guinness World Record for the most cosmetic procedures performed on one person.
Burge has had more than 100 cosmetic procedures, including a nose job, butt lift, breast enhancements, liposuction, tummy tuck, eyelid lift, and chin augmentation. She spent a total of $850,000 on all her physical "adjustments."
The way people decide to live their lives is unimportant to me. However, it is important to make it clear to young girls that accepting natural beauty is extremely important. The unique characteristics of a person's physical appearance should not be altered in an effort to look like everyone else in Hollywood or in the media.
