It might be time to stock up on supplies of Mountain Dew and Twinkies because Xbox Live will be down on Monday September 29th for up to 24 hours for a major service maintenance. That's right, no sniping folks in Call of Duty IV or stomping all over the New England Patriots in Madden -- at least for a day.
So, what kind of goodies can we expect come Tuesday? Nothing, according to Xbox Live Programming Director Larry Hyrb. This isn't the much talked about new Xbox Live experience. While it is being called a maintenance service, I would guess it is really an infrastructure upgrade to get everything ready for all of the new features.
After all, not only will the new Xbox Live experience bring us the long-awaited use of Nintendo Miis (errr, I mean give us some neat little avatars!), it will also bring us expanded chat groups, a virtual game show called "Xbox Live Primetime", a host of new Xbox Live Arcade titles and (what I am really looking forward to) the ability to stream Netflix movies and TV shows.
But, of course, all of this will need some upgraded infrastructure. So we'll be out of luck on Monday.
For those who will be anxiously awaiting the maintenance being finished, you can tune into Larry Hyrb's Twitter feed where he'll announce the end of the update as soon as the maintenance ends.
