The scariest games for the Nintendo Wii

Halloween is almost upon us, so it is time to delve into those scary games for the Nintendo Wii. Unsurprisingly, there isn't a huge list of scary games for the family-friendly console, but there are a few that can definitely get you into the mood for Halloween. So, if you are looking for a good horror game for the Nintendo Wii, look no further than this short list:

  • Resident Evil 4
Wii Horror Games - Resident Evil 4 is tops among scary games for the Wii
Resident Evil 4 is the top horror game
for the Wii.

One of the best titles for the Wii, Resident Evil 4 is a must for anyone that wants to blow away some zombies Wii-style. As U.S. Agent Leon Kennedy, it is up to you to investigate the disappearance of the President's daughter. Your quest will take you to some of the scariest locations in Europe.

Even if you've played through a previous version of Resident Evil 4 for another console, it is worth it to give the Wii version a spin. With excellent use of the innovative controls and five new chapters added to the original story, Resident Evil 4 might just be the best horror game available for the Wii.

  • House of the Dead 2 and 3 Returns

Taking the zombie game to a new level, House of the Dead 2 and 3 includes everything from zombie frogs to zombie ninjas. Based on the arcade classics, this game is fully compatible with the Wii Zapper, so you'll be mowing down the zombie horde in style.

House of the Dead 2 takes you to Venice, Italy where a fellow agent has turned up missing. There is also an outbreak of undead fever that needs your deadeye sharpshooting. House of the Dead 3 takes place in a post-apocalyptic future infested with -- yes, you guessed it -- a bunch of zombies. Again, you'll be blasting through the hordes, but this time there are no pesky civilians to get in the way.

  • Alone in the Dark
Wii Scary Games - Alone in the Dark doesn't live up to expectations, but is a solid horror game.
In Alone in the Dark, you will investigate
the mysteries of Central Park.

Alone in the Dark created the survival horror genre when it hit the scene back in the early 90's, and while its 2008 resurrection doesn't quite live up to the expectations of the horror classic, Alone in the Dark is a relatively solid game with haunting cinematics and a good mix of action and puzzles.

Designed like a TV series, Alone in the Dark is broken into different episodes and features both a first person and third person camera view.

Is the Best Wii Horror Game a GameCube Game?

The great thing about the Nintendo Wii is that it is backwards compatible with GameCube games. This means that the scariest game for the Wii may very well be a GameCube game.

Wii Horror Games - Eternal Darkness is playable on the Wii, making it perhaps the scariest game playable on the console.
The graphics may be dated, but
Eternal Darkness delivers on gameplay.

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem can best be described as being transported into an H.P. Lovecraft story. A major game mechanism in Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem is the sanity meter, which measures out how much sanity you have left. When low, the sanity meter can effect both your vision and your hearing, with the camera view becoming skewed and whispers coming at you from all directions.

If you don't mind looking at somewhat dated graphics, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem might be your best bet for this Halloween. Since it is an older game, your best bet is to check Gamestop for a used copy or search for it on eBay.
