Some of these free computer games were initially commercial games that have since been released as freeware. - America's Army
Developed by the Army as a recruitment tool, America's Army is a first person shooter using the Unreal engine. With an eye towards realism, America's Army accurately portrays the equipment of the army. However, this realism doesn't extend to blood and gore as the game gets a Teen rating by the ESRB. One of the best free computer games in the FPS genre, the game is continually updated by the Army.
- Civ-Evolution
Civ-Evolution is a free computer game based on Civilization 2. With the stated goal of correcting design mistakes of Civ2 and creating a more challenging AI, Civ-Evolution focuses on improved strategy while balancing this strategy with the micro-management aspect of turn-based strategy games. While the graphics are a little dated, this game is well worth the download for any strategy enthusiast.
- Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn
This 1995 real-time strategy game was re-released in celebration of Command and Conquer's 12th anniversary. Pitting the Global Defense Initiative against the Brotherhood of Nod, this game was good enough to spawn an empire. What better way to take a walk down memory lane than to do a good old-fashioned tank run? When you rank this one against the other free computer games, it will definitely come out as one of the best.

- Dungeon Runners
Dungeon Runners has a free mode and
a subscription mode.
A free MMORPG, Dungeon Runners is focused on dungeon exploration, monster bashing and item collecting. Released in 2007, the game has moderately good graphics. While it won't replace World of Warcraft, it does have a much better price. You can also purchase a membership to unlock items and get rid of the in-game advertising.
