Risen will be released on October 2, 209

While Dragon Age: Origins and Diablo 3 have stolen much of the upcoming RPG spotlight, Risen, developed by the same people that brought us the Gothic series, looks like it could be a nice surprise this holiday season. Piranha Bytes has announced that Risen has gone gold on the PC, so we should see it in stores on October 2, 2009.

In Risen, you have been shipwrecked on a volcanic island where a mysterious temple has recently risen from the ground, resulting in the inhabitants forbidding anyone from leaving the island. The game features Andy Serkis as the voice of the Inquisitor and John Rhys Davies as Don Esteban.

Risen recently popped up on the radar after being banned in Australia due to sex, drugs and violence. OK, it was really just the sex and drugs. After all, violence is perfectly fine, right?
