When it was announced that Erin Andrews would be featured in a "brand new mode" in NCAA Football 10, some believed they were talking about her role as a sideline reporter and how injuries would be handled a little different, while others held out hope that a brand new mode of gameplay was being introduced into the game.
As it turns out, they are simply renaming the Legend mode to Road to Glory -- though you won't see them come right out and say that in the video demo released of the "new mode".
The idea is that Erin Andrews has decided to do a series on how it feels to be a college athlete and she's chosen to follow you through your career as the focus of the series. So, basically, you get to play NCAA Football and be the star of your own reality series! Better hope fans don't vote you off!
Throughout your career, you will get to see presentations featuring your game highlights and get interactive feedback to how you are doing. The menu system for Legend Mode is also going back to the dorm room, which I've always found to be a little hokey, but I can live with it.
The real key will be whether they've actually beefed up Legend mode or they are just glossing over it with some neat bells and whistles. Because, let's face it, Legend mode was bad last year. It was way, way too easy. At least, if you were on the offensive side of the ball. The "wide-open offense" and broken defense made playing a position like quarterback or running back to be a real snorefest as you basically smoked the defense from day one.
But I do like that they are keeping the high school playoffs, and hopefully we'll see a smarter coach calling the plays. No more hail mary passes from your own 10 yard line 20 seconds before halftime when you are up 28-0. Hey, yeah, I can throw it 90 yards in the air!
