The Wii rocked the end of 2009.
The Nintendo Wii jumped out of the gates strong, and sales for the console have continued to dwarf sales for the other major consoles. But as far as the top Wii games go, many complain that the Nintendo Wii has too many very so-so games or mini-game extravaganzas rushed to the market and too few games that deserve mention on a top Wii games list.
But that doesn't mean everything released lately was complete crap. Here are some of the top Wii games released in recent months. Enjoy.
Top Wii Games - Recently Released
- Mad World
- Release Date: 3/10/09
- Metacritic Score: 82
One of the top Wii games released this year, MadWorld puts you smack dab in the middle of the most violent television show ever. And best of all, you get a chainsaw. With a Mature ESRB rating, this might be one of the most violent games to be released on the Nintendo Wii, and has already been featured in the news for its violence. This one is definitely not for kids.
- Pro Evolution Soccer 2009

- Metacritic Score: 86
The early reviews are quick to point out that Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 is a huge improvement over last year's version. The bugs and shortcomings have been fixed, ball control is much smoother, and you can now participate in Master League mode. This is a great title for soccer fans.
- Rock Band 2

- Metacritic Score: 92
When the Nintendo Wii got its first taste of Rock Band, it wasn't the fully-featured game enjoyed by the other consoles. This time around, Wii owners aren't getting the short end of the stick. Rock Band 2 includes all of the features found on the other consoles -- it even lets you purchase and download new songs to play. This makes it one of the top Wii games released in 2008. - Guitar Hero World Tour

- Metacritic Score: 86
There's little doubt that Guitar Hero has been keeping track of Rock Band's success. Like Rock Band, the newest in the Guitar Hero franchise allows you to play guitar, bass, drums and sing along with the vocals. While the implementation on the Wii is a little awkward -- you'll need four Wiimotes if you want to play with four people -- it does deliver the hard rocking riffs Guitar Hero fans will enjoy and expands the fun into the other instruments. - Shaun White Snowboarding: Road Trip
- Release Date: 11/16/08
- Metacritic Score: 78
Shaun White Snowboarding: Road Trip is basically We Ski on steroids (and on a snowboard!). They both enjoy the same open-ended environment that allows yo to choose what you want to do, and they both support the Wii Fit's Balance Board, but other than the snow on the mountain, the comparison stops there. While We Ski can be great for kids, Shaun White Snowboarding is what you would expect of one of the top Wii games out there and is designed for those who seriously want to feel like they are flying down the mountain.
- Call of Duty: World at War

- Metacritic Score: 83
Call of Duty comes back to the Nintendo Wii with World at War. Perhaps the most popular game of the Christmas season, World at War sends the franchise back to World War II, only this time you'll be doing some of your fighting in the Pacific. The latest installment to the franchise packs in the same great multiplayer action that made Modern Warfare such a hit and includes a few extras like WWII specific weapons and the ability to unleash the dogs of war. What is the best Nintendo Wii game released? Many people would answer Super Mario Galaxy without a thought. A 3D platformer that shoots Mario off into the stars, this game features all the basic puzzle solving and wacky fun you'd expect from a Mario platformer. It is a must-have game for any Mario fan.
- Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess

One of the earliest games released for the Nintendo Wii, it is still one of the best Wii games. In Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, a farm boy named Link travels to the Twilight Realm in order to fight back the darkness that surrounds the land of Hyrule.
- Super Smash Bros. Brawl

If Super Mario Galaxy is considered the best Wii game by some, Super Smash Bros. Brawl gets the vote of those who disagree. This next installment of the Smash Bros. series is the best fighting game currently available for the Nintendo Wii and allows you to play as many great Nintendo characters like Mario, Luigi, Wario, Link, Fox, Diddy Kong and many others.

Mario Kart sits at the head of the table as the king of go-kart racing. With the same wacky fun from previous version, Mario Kart comes with a plastic wheel holder for your Wiimote, giving you that go-kart feel. As one of the top Wii games, Mario Kart is a great game to play with friends or to play alone.
- Super Paper Mario

In Super Paper Mario, the villainous Count Bleck has abducted Princess Peach and Bowser in order to force them to marry and obtain a chaos heart which will allow him to unleash his destructive power. A great mix of RPG and platformer, Super Paper Mario expands on the concepts found in Paper Mario with some strong platforming and puzzle-solving elements.
- Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
- Release Date: 9/27/07
- Metacritic Score: 90
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is the king of first person action on the Nintendo Wii. Utilizing the innovative controllers, players use the nunchuk to move around while pointing at the screen and blasting with the Wiimote. Follow bounty hunter Samus Aran as she fights against the Space Pirates and eventually faces off against Dark Samus.
