Cool Gaming Sites - Warcraft can be downloaded from All Games A to Z
Warcraft is one of many games
available to download at
All Games A to Z.

While it's impossible to list out all the great game sites on the web, here's a smattering of great game sites from websites that focus on news and reviews to social networks devoted to gaming to great game sites to get trailers or cheat codes.

What makes up a great game site?  Well, it has to be about games, of course.  It also can't be completely cluttered with annoying advertisements like some of the free flash game sites and shockwave game sites.   I've also listed great game sites from many different areas to give you a good smattering of cool game sites available on the web.

This game site lets you download cool freeware games, some of which are quite addicting like Dink Smallwood, a humble pig farmer who embarks on a grand adventure. Who doesn't want to be an ex-pig farmer?

Another fun web arcade with a whole bunch of Flash-based and Shockwave-based games. This great game site is another flash arcade that is head and shoulders above the pack.

One of the best game sites for downloading free games and popular game trailers, it is  also a great place to download older premium games that have been dumped into the public domain, like the original Warcraft.

BlogFaction is a blogging network that hosts a number of game-related blogs like OMG RPG and GameGirl. It's a great game site for getting a different look at gaming.

You can barely browse the web for game sites without tripping over a cheat code site, and most of them are about as ugly as a dog wearing a sweater, but Cheat Code Central is one of the better sites for getting cheat codes.

Destructoid is one of the premeir game sites with a thriving community and articles that inject humor into game news. Geared for the hardcore gamer, Destructoid is definitely a site that should be visited on a regular basis.

A great place to go for digital downloads of the latest and greatest games. Not quite as fully featured as Steam, but it has a nice selection of games.

No list of game sites would be complete without at least mentioning FilePlanet. It's about the best place you can go for downloading demos or open betas to popular games. Unfortunately, it requires a membership to unlock all of its features and get the fastest download speeds.

A cross between a social network and an online game, Gaia Online melds the two and creates a pretty fun little game site.

Game Sites - GameTrailers
GameTrailers is just one of
many sites that begin
begin with the word 'game'.

GameDaily is a great game site for getting news or searching for cheat codes. It's up on all the latest, has a clean design and doesn't take itself too seriously.

Operated by GameSpot, GameFaqs is a one-stop shop for hints, tips, walkthroughs and strategy guides for all the most popular games.

A great source of social news for gamers, GameGrep puts a unique twist on social news by verifying each article submitted to ensure that it is unique and is the source of the news item.

One of the best game sites for news, reviews and cheats for all the latest and greatest games, GameRadar also has a thriving community in the forums for when you just can't find what you are looking for.

An all-in-one gaming portal, this game site has reviews, trailers, downloads, previews, news and all sorts of information about gaming.

GameSpot is one of the best game sites for reviews. It is also one of the most comprehensive gaming information portals out there, so it's a great gaming site to have in your bookmarks.

If you are an online PC gamer, chances are you've used the GameSpy engine even if you don't pay much attention to those things. GameSpy can be called one of the earliest gaming social networks, and beyond just letting gamers hook up with each other online, it also is a great resource for gaming info.

An excellent spot  for catching trailers to new and upcoming games as well as seeing video reviews and getting more information about the latest and greatest in gaming.

A gaming portal devoted to the art and business of game design, Gameustra is an essential website for anyone who strives to design their own games.  There are plenty of great resources for those wanting to get into the development side of things in the industry.

Perhaps the biggest message board community devoted to gaming, IGN is a great place to go to ask questions and get opinions from other gamers. While the IGN site itself is pretty busy, the boards are a fun place to hang out.

InstantAction represents the next step in web-based gaming. You have to download a browser addon, but the games are a step above the standard Flash-based and Shockwave-based games that comprise most browser-based games.

A game blog with a sense of humor, Joystiq does a great job of keeping on top of the gaming news and not taking itself too seriously.

Kind of a YouTube for gamers, this game site lets you upload your own games or download other peoples games and play them. A great site to visit to get into the independent gaming scene.

Machinima is the art of taking a game and making a movie or video from the game footage. Some cool stuff with some really interesting movies made from Sims 2 and World of Warcraft among others.

Gaming Sites- Mashade
Mashade lets you splice
together games to make
your own video.

A fun game site where you can splice together bits and pieces of games to create your own game trailer. A great placer to just browse and watch funny videos.

A great blog dedicated to MMO gaming, this is a great place to go to keep up on what's new with World of Warcraft, Everquest, Warhammer Online and upcoming MMOs.

If you like to play your games inside of a virtual world with 3,000 other people, MMORPG.com is the game site for you. Keeping their fingers on the pulse of MMO gaming, this site will bring you all the news about new and upcoming MMOs.

The problem with reviews is that they really just boil down into one person's opinion. Metacritic corrects that by bringing all the major reviews together and posting a user rating as well, so you can really tell which games are good and which ones just stink.   Definitely one of the best game sites for visiting just before you make a purchase.

N4G is the most popular souce of social news for the gaming industry, and as such it is a great place to check on a daily basis to find out about breaking stories.

Arcade game sites are a dime a dozen and Ninja Kiwi is one of the best. A more streamlined design than some of these gaming sites that go a bit overboard with the gaudy graphics and the advertisements.

A blog that features some really funny articles and a great comic. Be sure to stop in on this site at least once a week for a good laugh.

A social network for gamers, it won't really replace GameSpy or anything, but it's a good place to meet other gamers if you are into the social networking scene.

Game Sites - Runescape
Runescape is a popular
browser-based MMORPG.

If you are tired of paying 15 bucks a month for the same-old MMO being made over and over again, RuneScape is your ticket out of the vicious cycle. Its a free MMO (though there is the option to have a premium account) and one of the most popular out there.

Another fun game blog that adds a sense of humor to the game industry, Sarcastic Gamer is a great blog to plug into your RSS reader.

Steam Powered Games has blended some social web features in with digital downloads of premium games to create a pretty cool gaming site. It's definitely worth bookmarking if you prefer downloading your games to going to the store.

Another good game information portal, StategyInformer has news and reviews, hosts mods for games and is a good place to go for the latest patches. It focuses mainly on PS3, Xbox360 and PC games.

A premier gaming network, UGO provides news, reviews, guides and information to the gaming community. Going a step beyond just games, UGO also provides blogs for music, movies and more that gamers might find interesting. Also be sure to visit the hero creator.

About.com's Video Game Strategies site is another good place to get cheat codes. It's been around for a while, so it's a good place to get cheat codes for older games. If you are having trouble finding cheat codes for your game, you can also ask about it on the message board.

WarCry is one of many gaming networks that creates a site to a game and seeks to become the complete resource for that game. Similar to the Vault Network and other gaming networks, WarCry is one of the best, often hosting applications such as character creators to help out with advancement planning.

A great resource for getting hints and strategy tips to your current obsession. Game wikis are slowly taking over the FAQ world and Wikia is the best wiki farm for gaming.

Want to program your own games and get them on Xbox Live but don't know how? The XNA Creators Club is a great place to start.

Some of my favorite game sites on the listGameGrep, GameTrailers, InstantAction, Mashade, Metacritic, Penny Arcade, Joystiq

Is your favorite gamesite missing from the list? Leave a comment and let everyone know how wrong it is for the website not to be listed!
