It's official, Netflix is coming to the PlayStation 3. With thousands of movies available to watch instantly, this deal will open a huge array of entertainment options. And the best part is that it is free for existing Netflix customers who own a PlayStation 3. For those who haven't jumped on board the video-by-mail train, you can start watching Instant Access movies on your PS3 for as low as $8.99 a month.
The ability to stream Netflix movies to the PS3 is accomplished through a Blu-ray disc that can be ordered from Netflix. This disc is free and Netflix even pays for shipping. This disc uses the Blu-ray's BD-Live technology to activate the Netflix interface on the PS3.
With the addition of Netflix Instant Access movies, the PlayStation 3 resumes its role as the best "entertainment" system among the video game consoles. While the Xbox 360 has been streaming Netflix movies for a year now, it does not come with a Blu-ray player, and recent rumors that a Blu-ray add-on was coming to the Xbox 360 have been nixed by Microsoft.
