Will Dragon Age be the next great RPG?

At one point in the early 90's, the computer role-playing game was considered pretty much dead. After all the great RPGs in the 80's -- games like Ultima, Bard's Tale, Might and Magic and Wizardry -- sales had declined to a point where few development studios were willing to risk an RPG.
And then came a couple of games that changed the landscape completely: Diablo and Baldur's Gate. The success of these two games led to a resurgence in RPGs.
While Diablo took the genre in a new direction by combining action-oriented gameplay from games like Gauntlet with Rogue-like elements, Baldur's Gate was more of a traditional RPG.
Now, the guys behind Baldur's Gate are at it again, this time working on a game called Dragon Age. Saying the game is based on a 'back to their roots' philosophy of going back to what really made Baldur's Gate work, the team has just recently been letting the public see a few sneak peaks at what they've been working on these past few years.
Unsurprisingly, Dragon Age has a very Baldur's Gate feel to it. With a strong story and open-ended gameplay where the actions you take effect how the story plays out, Dragon Age is shaping up to be the next great RPG. The game will also ship with a toolset where new adventures can be created, though just how much leeway the mod community will have remains to be seen.
