It looks like Electronic Arts may have decided that one patch is enough for NFL Head Coach 09. Josh Looman, Lead Designer of NFL Head Coach 09, stated on the Operation Sports forums that the first patch "...will probably be the last one we release." The reasons given were time required and the expense involved.
But at least NFL Head Coach 09 received a patch. EA's first try at creating an official football sim based on its popular Madden engine was a complete disaster and an almost unplayable experience for many gamers due to frequent crashes, but EA walked away from that effort without single major patch to address the issues.
There's still plenty of things wrong with NFL Head Coach 09 -- things ranging from bad AI on the field to downright silly defining moments -- but, at the very least, it is playable and even somewhat addicting to the football fanatic.
No word yet on whether or not EA will give the football sim one more swing. NFL Head Coach 09 was bundled with Madden's 20th anniversary edition, which may help its cause if those sales are added to the Head Coach's tally.
