The one thing I was was looking forward to most with the Xbox Live New Experience upgrade was the ability to stream Netflix on-demand movies. Watching movies on the computer is fine, but it doesn't beat being lazily strewn across the couch, and watching the movies on the laptop certainly doesn't beat watching them on a widescreen HDTV.
So, with that in mind, here are some of the best movies and shows that Netflix on-demand has to offer. Note that the links might not work correctly if you aren't logged into Netflix.
Netflix On-Demand has a lot of great comedies from the ever-goofy Bubble Boy to classics like Slap Shot. If you liked Amazon Women on the Moon, you'll love The Ten, and if you are looking for a classic John Hughes movie, you can watch Weird Science. It's even got good stand up like Eddie Murphy in Raw. Though personally, I couldn't decide whether Young Einstein belonged here or on a Worst of Netflix list.
Winner: Fear of a Black Hat. If you like rap and you liked This is Spinal Tap, you'll love this movie.
Drama has everything from new stuff like Gone Baby Gone to older classics like Once Upon a Time in America. It's got stuff for women like Sense and Sensibility and stuff for dudes like Remember the Titans. Heck, it even has stuff for Edward Norton fans like The Illusionist.
Winner: A Time to Kill. This one has it all: courtroom drama, racial prejudice, a house getting burnt down, a cheesy ending, Sandra Bullock getting kidnapped, Donald Sutherland being a drunk, and Samuel L. Jackson being Samuel L. Jackson. What more could you want in a drama?
There's a bit of everything here, from classics like Blade Runner and The Road Warrior to quirky new films like The Big Nothing. Good Horror flicks are scarce, but they do have the original Amityville Horror. Seven is phenomenal, of course, and Shadowboxer is a surprisingly cool flick. And if you don't know what I mean when I yell "Wolverines!" then you definitely need to watch Red Dawn.
Winner: Scarface. Do I really need to explain this choice?
While Heroes may have jumped the shark in Season 2, you can still watch Season 1. You can also get your laugh on with the original Office or the American version. While I've never seen the attraction of CSI, you can watch them starting with Season 7. (I admit, they beat Simon and Simon.) Personally, I'd make 30 Rock the winner if it weren't for...
Winner: Coupling. What's Coupling? Take Friends, drop them into a pub in London and have them talk about sex all the time and you'll get Coupling. Seasons 1 through 3 are absolutely hilarious, but you can skip Season 4 as the funniest character (Jeff) left the show.
