TV Show King Review - This WiiWare title isn't the greatest trivia game, but it is well worth the price you will pay for it.

The Scoop on TV Show King

TV Show King is a great little trivia game offered through WiiWare in the Wii Shop channel. Mimicking a television game show, TV Show King takes you through several rounds of trivia where you can compete with up to four other players.

TV Show King delivers on the trivia with a cute and unobtrusive package. Priced at only 1000 Wii Points -- the equivalent of $10 -- TV Show King is well worth the money.

TV Show King - Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Solid trivia game with good questions
  • Three different difficulties with questions suitable for kids, adults, and really smart adults
  • Choose to play 3, 6, or 9 rounds of trivia

Cons

  • Questions do not get harder in subsequent rounds
  • Could use more variety in the special events
  • Random elements play too strong a role in who wins

TV Show King - Gameplay

TV Show King is a trivia game packaged like a game show. Contestants answer a series of trivia questions and compete to select the correct answer. The final round pits the two top contestants against each other in a competition to see who can be the first to answer five questions correctly.

Between each round, contestants can choose to spin a wheel that can add to or subtract from their total. A contestant can even win the chance to take cash from another contestant, but look out, you can also lose all of your hard-earned cash.

TV Show King Review - What's To Like

TV Show King is a refreshing game that delivers on the single most important feature of a trivia game: good questions. There is a good variety of questions from history, geography, science, sports and pop culture.

It is nice to have three difficulty levels. Normal mode is just right for kids, while King mode presents a nice challenge for teenagers and adults. And for those that really think they are smart, there is a Genius mode for cranking up the difficulty.

The game also allows you to choose how many rounds of trivia to play. This means you can tailor a game to be quick if you don't have as much time, or long if you are ready to sit down and tax your brain for a while.

TV Show King Review - What's Not To Like

The questions do not get harder as you advance through the rounds. This is understandable considering that you can choose how many rounds to play, but it would still be nice to see a slight increase in difficulty as the show progresses.

The spinning of the wheel might have been a nice touch, but the rewards can cause you to go from last to first -- or first to last -- even if you aren't the one spinning the wheel.  It adds too much of a random element to the game.

The special event could also use some variety. The host gets all excited when he announces it like something really neat is coming up, but then you just find out that you are going to score a little extra green if you get the next question right.

Where's my daily double?

TV Show King Review - The Bottom Line

If you are into trivia games, this one is a must buy. It's cute, it offers a good variety in questions and, best of all, it's cheap.

TV Show King Review

Final Grade : B

A solid trivia game that is well worth the money you'll pay for it as WiiWare, TV Show King could use some balance in the rewards of spinning the wheel, but it will keep trivia buffs entertained for many nights to come.
