Ever have the urge to play Asteroids? Or Donkey Kong? Perhaps you'd like to get a little bowling done during your lunch hour at work?

Game widgets are the solution. A widget is a small piece of portable code that you can put on your website, blog or even MySpace or Facebook profile. You can even register for a Netvibes page and create your own little arcade.

To help get you started, I've organized a list of some fun game widgets including some all-time classics. For more game widgets, you can check out the games at Widgetbox.

Asteroids is a fun game widget that will swoop you back to the past.

Asteroids Game Widget

Was there ever any time that someone was wowed by the graphics in Asteroids? Probably not. Even for its time, the black and white vector graphics didn't blow anyone away. But the gameplay did considering that Asteroids was Atari's best-selling game of all time. And now its a game widget you can use to waste time on MySpace.

The Donkey Kong game widget recreates Mario's first adventure.

The game that spawned an empire, and now you can experience Mario's first trip to our world while sitting at your desk eating a chicken salad sandwich using this game widget. And for those curious, that's not Princess Peach up there. It's a nice woman named Pauline. (Don't mention that name in front of Prince Peach -- she's the jealous type!)

The Super Mario game widget has some annoying ads.

Super Mario Game Widget

Hey, if we are going to be jumping barrels as Mario, we might as well have a real adventure, right? The only annoying thing about this game widget is the huge clump of text ads splattered across the top. But they are pretty easy to ignore once you get into the game.

Wii Sports isn't the only bowling game in town.

TGFG Bowling Game Widget

Who says you need a Wii to have a good bowling game? Okay, this one might not actually compete with Wii Sports Bowling, but it can be a neat distraction if you are stuck in front of a computer and can't break out your Wii.

Who doesn't love Breakout?

Breakout Game Widget

Speaking of breaking out your Wii, why not waste a little time with a good ole' game of Breakout? This game widget recreates the fun of sending a little dot up into a pile of rectangles and watching them disintegrate because of the massive velocity of that slow-moving ball. Okay, sounds pretty stupid, but I spent a lot of time playing this game way back in the day.
