You may remember when Fourth of July was called Independence Day. It was a day steeped in traditional patriotic songs and rituals. The American Flag was as much a reason for swelling emotions as the sight and sound of fireworks. We knew it symbolized bombs "bursting in air" and remembered the hard won battles that earned our freedom.

Town of Celbration will present its 4th of July parade at 9am, circling through the Town Center and part of the Village. The theme is "A Celbration of Our Troops." There will be a 1970s costume contest at 7:30 pm with two categories. One offers $250 in prizes and the other a total of $300.
At 9pm, on Market Street, a Community Covenant will be signed, signifying the community's upport for military service members and their families. 407.566.2200
Melbourne - Honor America and the Liberty Bell Memorial Museum are sponsoring the Independence Day Parade in Melbourne this year. The parade will step off from Manatee Park on Melbourne Avenue at 10am on 4th of July and proceed down New Haven Avenue to Oak Street ending at the Museum. The Museum grounds and nearby park are an ideal place for a picnic followed by a tour of the Museum which will remail open until 2pm. The Museum houses one of the few full-sized replicas of the Liberty Bell as seen in Philadelphia and it was cast in the same foundry in White Chapel, England. 321-727-1776
Melbourne - Sponsors Honor America and The Running Zone are hosting the first Firecracker 5K Run which will commence at 6:30 pm and end at Front Street Park. Call The Running Zone for more information 321-751-8890. Fireworks can be seen from Front Street Park in Melbourne. Free shuttle bus service will be available to Front Street Park from the Melbourne Auditorium, at 7:10, 7:50 and 8:10 p.m. Call 321-953-6282.
Rockledge - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. - Independence Day Family Picnic will be at McLarty Park, 790 Barton Blvd., Rockledge. Inflatable games will be available for $5 per person for the day. Meal tickets will be available for $1 and include hamburger, hot dog, chips and a drink. Admission and parking are free. Call 633-1870.
Titusville - Red White & Boom - 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. - Space Coast Regional Airport, 355 Golden Knights Blvd., Titusville. Featuring flyovers, aircraft on display, food, children’s activities, live performances and a fireworks display at 9 p.m. Admission is free. Call 267-3036.
Cocoa - A July 4th Celebration featuring the Brevard Symphony Orchestra and Fireworks will be at the amphitheater (7:30 pm) at Riverfront Park, 401 River Edge Blvd., Cocoa. Fireworks begin at 9:15 p.m. Admission is free. Call 631-9075.
Cocoa Beach - The city of Cocoa Beach is the new organizer of the popular Ron Jon Surf Shop fireworks extravaganza, one of the largest fireworks displays on Florida's East Coast. Fireworks are launched from a barge anchored offshore from Shepard Park, located behind Ron Jon Surf Shop.
Sanford - Star Spangled Sanford on the Riverwalk will feature entertainers all day and of course, fireworks over the lake. The Ft. Mellon Park Splash Pad (600 East First Street along the Riverwalk on Lake Monroe) will be open July 4th from 10 AM - 8 PM with $2 admission! 407.688.5004
Winter Springs - Celebration of Freedom '09 - Central Winds Park, State Road 434. Bring the family (5-10pm) entertainment, games and fireworks. Concession food and drinks available. Following the fireworks, there will be a Sock Hop with the Roadhouse Blues Band. 407.327.6593
Winter Parke Olde Fashioned 4th of July Celebration will be held Saturday from 9am - 1pm in Central Park (downtown) sponsored by the city of Winter Park and Embarq. There will be a children's bicycle parade, games and activities for children, patriotic music and horse-drawn wagon rides. Hot dogs, drinks and watermelon will be served at 11am. 407.599.3275

City of Edgewater - will start its celebration at 4pm with live music and kids games at Menard-May Park, and a blood drive on Riverside Drive. There will be a 5k walk/run at 7pm from City Hall, followed by fireworks display at dusk at George R. Kennedy Park. 386.424.2445
Downtown Orlando- Families can celebrate Independence Day from 4pm - 10pm at Lake Eola Park with food, live entertainment on two stages, a kids' play area, and a fireworks spectacular at 9pm. 407.246.3720
Daytona Beach - Coke Zero powered by Coca Cola 400 at Daytona Beach International Speedway 1801 International Speedway Blvd. 400 mile, 160 lap NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stock car race. Fireworks are displayed every Saturday night from Memorial Day through Labor Day at 9:45pm, but the 4th of July fireworks will be especially beautiful. Watch from the Oceanfront Park / Daytona Beach Pier area.
