| Janelle Jalbert | The magic number is 25. Unlike previous years, with the earlier version of the Cup car, attrition is not likely to take the pressure off of the Lowe's team until the checkered flag waves. Johnson has never won at Homestead and has finished 26th or worse 47 times in his career. In 2005, he even crashed out of Homestead, finishing 40th. The bad news for Mark Martin is in eight Homestead starts, Johnson has five top-fives and two runner-up finishes in 2003 and 2004. | Johnson eyes history while several in the field hope to start a winning momentum for 2010... Calling all dark horses: Jimmie Johnson is smart money, not a sure thing |

| Laura Thornton | Sunday's race in Phoenix mirrored how this Chase has gone for Mark Martin and the No. 5 Kellogs/Carquest team which has been very good - but not quite good enough - to get by Jimmie Johnson. | It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over... |
3 (--) |
| Kyle Lavigne | In spite of not having a title shot, Jeff Gordon and the No, 24 team kept up their fight, soldiering home to a quiet, but solid ninth place on Sunday. However, they actually lost ground to Kurt Busch, who trails Gordon by 42 points heading into Homestead. Gordon can not afford a mistake, or he'll lose out on third spot in the final standings. | Gordon and team fight on to a ninth place in Phoenix... |

| Katy Lindamood | Although Martinsville hasn't been kind to Busch in recent years it doesn't mean he doesn't have the skills to tame the track. In 18 starts Busch has one win to his credit. Don't let the poor stats fool you. It's still anyone's Chase to win or loose | It's not Jimmie's Cup just yet... Busch still in the running at Martinsville despite what the media says |
5 (--) |
| Rosalie Thompson | Tony Stewart started his racing career at Phoenix but the former Champion ended Sunday's race with a 25th-place finish after being involved in a crash. He will have to be content with his new Stewart-Haas Raching team's success in placing both cars in the Chase and start to build for next year. | Tony Stewart had a bad day at Phoenix after getting caught up in a multi-car accident... |
6 (--) |
| Joshua Lobdell | With two races to go the #42 team and driver Juan Montoya look to win on an oval, and to carry their momentum into 2010. | Minus 236 points to leader Jimmie Johnson, Juan Montoya is not mathematically eliminated from winning the 2009 Sprint Cup title, however... |

| David Yeazell | Denny Hamlin might not be racing for a championship anymore, but he certainly will continue to race for wins. | With nothing to lose, Denny Hamlin can afford to take chances in Texas. |
9 (--) |
| Jeff Norris | Newman took the pole for Sunday's race at Martinsville, putting him in the best position among the Chase contenders to salvage what has been a pretty average Chase run for the #39 team. |

10 (--) |
| Darren Pope | The Chase has been a roller-coaster ride for the No. 9 Budweiser team, but a top-ten finish in the 2009 standings would give momentum heading into next year. | Kahne looks for a strong run in season finale in Homestead... |
11 (--) |
| Amanda Vincent | Carl Edwards' championship hopes diminished a long time ago, but he's still looking for that first win of the season. Sunday's Ford 400 is his last chance to get that win before the season ends. |
|

| Clark Hamilton | Brian ran strong, avoided trouble, and ran in the top fifteen all day at the Amp Energy 500 in Talladega. He positioned himself in second position at the start of the green-white-checkered -- NASCAR's version of overtime. Snake bitten as he has been throughout the Chase though, his line would prove to be the weaker of the two. He finished 14th. |
