Max Siegel, president of global operations at Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing has announced he will step down from his position.
According to multiple sources, Siegel will head up NASCAR’s Driver For Diversity program while remaining a consultant with the new Earnhardt-Ganassi organization through a company he has started with his former law firm that will be based in Indianapolis.
The former music executive spent two years with Dale Earnhardt Incorporated. The Drive For Diversity program, which does not belong to NASCAR but is overseen by them, has taken some criticism from some who have said it has not done enough to bring minority and female drivers and crewmembers into the top tiers of the sport.
“NASCAR is an incredible sport," Siegel said. "For years the Gibbs organization, Mr. Rick Hendrick and Jay Frye were all supportive of (former Green Bay Packer) Reggie White and I becoming members of the NASCAR community and growing its fan base and participants as broadly as possible.
"In order to accomplish this I felt it was necessary to pay my dues, learn the sport and gain the respect from those in the industry. Certainly, working with Dale Earnhardt Incorporated has given me the opportunity to learn the sport from the business level."
