How many times have you been working, driving, walking, or otherwise away from your home computer or a computer in general and have seen a great site, had a great idea, or just needed a little extra help remembering something for later. Well, if you have a SmartPhone, it is not an issue.
As tested on the Blackberry Curve 8330 and a computer running Windows Vista Home Premium, www.evernote.com is a godsend for the constantly thinking, or even the constantly on the go.
Evernote defines itself on its site as, "Evernote allows you to easily capture information in any environment using whatever device or platform you find most convenient, and makes this information accessible and search-able at any time, from anywhere. Did we mention that it's free?"
All notes are synchronized across the platforms. So if you create it in the desktop version, you can edit it on the web version and/or the mobile version or any combination of the three.
There are three versions, all of which are free. The SmartPhone version which is here, allows you to post virtually any item, a photo, video, text and links for use later or just as a "hey, remember this!" You have the capability for notes in any format, whether it be a picture, voice note, text, etc.
The web version at which is at the main site, allow you to view all of your notes on-line from any computer. It has full printing capabilities as well as sharing capabilities.
The desktop version actually has two versions. There is the true desktop version for Mac or Windows or as tested for its portability and this article, the U3 version which goes on any U3 compatible flash drive. This means, it goes where you go. You don't need to log in to someone else's pc and risk a security issue, you plug your drive in, do what you need to do, and log out and eject the drive.
They also offer a browser extension for FireFox and Flock browsers which allow instant access at the push of a button. What is great about the browser extension is that you can see a website you like, click and it is clipped and saved to your Evernote for use or viewing later.
If however you do not have the flash drive, well then be secure in the fact, that the desktop version will securely sync your data for use on your SmartPhone or the web version.
The version as tested is totally free. They do have a paid version which is $5.00 a month or $45.00 for the year which removes the ads as well as offering you a step up in the level of encryption and more storage space.
