As the Boston Home Technology Examiner, I am always looking for something new to write about. Sometimes, it is something that jumps out at me during the day, but others, come to me.
I recently came across a the site www.imintouch.com. It is remote access software. Well the competition in this realm is tough. You need to have features and products that set you apart and put you into a position to rise to the top.
I'm In Touch Dot Com has done just that with a suite of remote access software and physical products making it so you are never away when you are away. They do it with very powerful encryption to protect both you and your computers information. This is available cross platform, Mac, Windows and Blackberry, yes, your blackberry can control your pc.
Once you sign up for your account, you will go through the process of setting it up on the computer(s) you want to control. It is a feature rich service, offering not just remote control, but remote printing, remote wake up of the pc., and remote audio. It allows for remote management of email, including viewing, sending and receiving and contact and calender management. A great and rather sneeky feature is the ability to remotely monitor what is being done on your pc. Whether it is an unfaithful spouse or a curious teen.
The first part of this is the client you will install on any computer you want to control. You will have already had your login info to put in.You will also have needed to name your computer and set up all security passwords and codes.
Now, it is time to think where you want to access the computer from. Will it be from another pc or a blackberry (or other smartphone)? If it is through the web, its simple, you just need to go onto the home page, log in and select the pc from within your account.
If you have a Blackberry, there is a downloadable app for most older models. If however, you have a Curve, a Storm or another newer model smart phone, you will access this via a link on your phones browser. You will be amazed at the resolution on your smart phone, but more importantly, you will be amazed at what you can do in the palm of your hand.
There is another producter that they offer that makes remote access as easy as plugging in a USB Key/Flash Drive. In fact, that is what it looks like. It is called SecureKey. Once set up by authenticating it through the pc you want to access, it becomes plug and play on authenticated pc, or rather plug and access. No need to remember any passwords or login names. It also comes with 1 gig of storage space on the drive.
As you can see, every day, technology is changing. In today, gone tomorrow, new the next.
