About three months ago I brought you guys an exclusive interview with a Brooklyn dwelling singer/song writer by the name of Emily McLean. Ever since she has been back in her natural resting spot of New York City her songs have been getting more buzz than the wings of a drunk wasp.
She is currently working on an EP with samples of the songs on her Myspace page which seem to be getting everyone from hip hop heads to country and western boots moving and stomping.
Her voice reminds some of the old time veterans in the New York jazz scene of Roberta Flack, which is a name not thrown about loosely within the demographic. I was able to check out Emily in action at the New School for Jazz in Manhattan a couple of months back and I left feeling as though I had smoked the exact perfect amount of marijuana.
I knew she was good, but when I was able to see her amongst a line up of her peers, all of which had beautiful voices, Emily stood out like a pink bullet proof vest on 50 Cent. Her tone, cadence, and projection literally dwarfed anyone who came before or after her and she took it in stride. Never did she seem to know that she was the shiznit, she shut her eyes, rounded her back and sang from her soul.
There is no question to her natural ability, now all we can do is wait and see if her records sound as good as her live performances. Take a listen to her single "Man on Fire" and see for yourself.
