160 years ago, today, Edgar Allan Poe was buried in Baltimore, Maryland with only 10 mourners surrounding his casket. The Associated Press reports that this Sunday, October 11th, two large funeral services will be conducted at the Westiminster Burying Ground where this great and haunting poet has been laid to rest. With classic works such as "The Raven," "The Tell-Tale Heart," "The Murders in the Rue Morgue," and "The Fall of the House of Usher," Poe has made a name for himself among poetry fans.
Today, an ironicaly haunting replica of his 40-year-old corpse will lie in repose at the Poe House for 12 hours, followed by an all-night vigil at his grave. Feel free to make a small trip and deliver your respects.
This Sunday morning, each of the two sold-out, 350-person services will take place with John Astin (Gomez Addams from the Addams Family TV Show) leading the ceremonies.
