Wii, X-Box, Playstation. They are all great and you can have fun playing them with your kids.  Trendy games, cool gadgets and fancy graphics seem to push board games out of the picture but bringing some old favorites out of the closet and dusting them off can be a great way to bond with your kids and teach them great skills such as patience, strategy, fair play and more.  Once they have learned a new game they have something new to share with their friends. 

For younger children checkers and tic tac toe are my favorites. Tic tac toe can even be played outside with sidewalk chalk.

Older children may enjoy chess, backgammon or cribbage.  If you are unfamiliar with these games learning a game along with your child can be very enjoyable and enlightening for both of you.
