Dina Chaiffetz enjoys everything that Denver has to offer, often without dropping a dime. She enjoys finding the good, the free and the ridiculously cheap in food and drink, arts and culture, goods and services, movies and other neat junk.
In case you were wondering why someone would want to freak out countless species of wildlife by draping shiny fabric sheets over a 5.9 mile stretch of river in Colorado, you can find out by attending a FREE lecture by world-renowned artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude. The lecture, offered by the Metropolitan State College of Denver Center for Visual Art, will be held at 5:30 pm on September 18, 2008 at Temple Hoyne Buell Theatre (Denver Performing Arts Complex). This is your opportunity to ask Christo and Jeanne-Claude about their inspiration for “Over the River,” which will involve suspending metallic fabric panels above the Arkansas River in Colorado for two weeks in the summer months. Christo and Jeanne-Claude are best known for installing 7,500 saffron-colored gates over 23 miles of pedestrian paths in New York’s Central Park in 2005.
For more information about the lecture or the August 29 – November 1 exhibition of original works by Christo and Jeanne-Claude, visit http://www.mscd.edu/news/cva/current.htm.
