The man who once claimed that he was the father of Rielle Hunter's love child, has broken his silence and is ready to tell the truth...for money of course. Andrew Young signed a book deal with St. Martin's Press in June, a deal which included a strict confidentiality agreement but somehow an important leak has occurred.
Young states in his book that John Edwards is (surprise!) the real father of Rielle Hunter's child. He also states that he and Edwards, along with Edwards' campaign finance chairman Fred Baron, fabricated the story that Young was the father to protect John Edwards during his run for the Democratic presidential nomination. (What are friends for?!)
According to coverage from The New York Times, Young writes in his book proposal that it was he who arranged the affair between Edwards and Rielle Hunter and made all clandestine arrangements for the illicit affair. Citing its perusal of the book proposal, the newspaper also affirms that Young said Edwards promised Hunter that they would wed "on a rooftop in New York City, with the Dave Matthews band in attendance," after the death of Edwards' wife Elizabeth.
Andrew Young claims John Edwards knew he was the father of the now 19 month-old Frances Quinn Hunter and made every effort to "keep it under wraps" even going so far as to ask if a paternity test could be faked should he have to take one.
John Edwards seems to be having more trouble from his affair. Suspicious that campaign money may have been spent on monetary gifts for Rielle Hunter, it is suspected that federal investigators are looking into any alleged misuse of campaign funds. Since Grand Jury proceedings are secret, the U.S. attorney's office in Raleigh will neither confirm nor deny an investigation is taking place.
John Edwards and his attorney, as well as Hunter and her attorney, have issued no comment on this story. Oh, John Edwards! What a tangled web you have woven! And what a heartless cad you are!
