If you happened to be in Seattle in 1964, you may recall all the hubbub over The Beatles' visit to The Emerald City. Seattle was one of the stops on their world tour, and the city embraced the Fab Four. Well, except for the hotels. None of the hotels wanted The Beatles beating their doors down, so it was The Edgewater to the rescue. A wise move, indeed.

Not only did The Beatles stay in a suite overlooking Elliott Bay, they fished from their window, and today that Beatles fishing from the window photo is legendary. Beatlemania so consumed the city during the four lads' visit that The Edgewater installed fencing around the hotel to keep the screaming fans at bay. But some of them were in the bay, swimming across the water to reach the Liverpudlians. After their Seattle concert on August 21, 1964 at the Seattle Center Coliseum, The Beatles were rushed back to the hotel in an ambulance. Taxis and stand-ins were used as decoys. The Edgewater later immortalized The Beatles' visit by transforming Room 272 -- the parlor where John, Paul, George and Ringo originally stayed -- into the Beatles Suite.

The Edgewater isn't missing a beat in marking the 45th anniversary of their visit on August 21, 2009. Among the planned festivities are a Fabulous Four course menu in the hotel's waterfront restaurant Six Seven; a Beatles lookalike contest, where the grand prize includes a night in the Beatles Suite; and live music from Creme Tangerine, a popular Beatles cover band. Special cocktails include the Nowhere Manhatten, Yellow Sub-Martini, Magical Mystery Mojito and Twist and Shout. A number of staff will be sporting Sgt. Pepper costumes during the day. The festivities begin in the hotel lounge at 9 PM; space is limited, and it's a first come, first serve basis

In addition, The Edgewater is holding a contest for the best Beatles memory. Fans are encouraged to submit their favorite memories of the band on The Edgewater's Facebook page. The winner will be selected by a panel of judges on August 31, 2009. The grand prize package includes a night for two in the Beatles Suite and dinner for two in Six Seven. For official contest rules, visit www.edgewaterhotel.com.

Sleep Like a Beatle: If you'd love to live A Day in the Life of the Fab Four, reserve the Beatles Suite at The Edgewater. The 700-square-foot studio-style suite features a furnished living room, library, dining area and stereo system complete with Beatles CD's. There are three bay windows with unobstructed views of Seattle's Elliott Bay and the Olympic Mountains (sorry, no fishing pole provided). There are also Beatles portraits, memorabilia and more. And yes, there's that famous fishin' photo, too. Rates for the Beatles Suite are $1,050 per night in high season, plus taxes. Rates can vary during off-season periods.
