Of course I knew that the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games were in Beijing. That's sort of a no-brainer. But I had no idea that the equestrian events were held at various venues in Hong Kong until we saw all the Olympics signs around this Chinese city.
After spending five days in Beijing, we flew to Hong Kong on Dragon Air, about a three-hour flight. Good food and good service. Our home was the Lanson Place Hotel in the Causeway Bay area of Hong Kong. This is a fun neighborhood similar to Knightsbridge in London or Ste. German des Pres in Paris. Rates were around $225/night, including a hearty Asian/Western buffet breakfast for two. And speaking of food, I was tiring of Chinese cuisine, so the first evening we dined at the nearby agnes b. Yes, that agnes b, the designer. Yummy French cuisine!

We packed a lot in during our three-night stay. Highlights included taking the Star Ferry to Kowloon, where we spent several hours going through the blocks and blocks of street markets. We also took a traditional bus tour, which we booked through our hotel. And as always, I have to go to a movie when I'm on the road. The one playing at the JP Cinema near our hotel was Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Not only did we get to select our own seats (tickets were around $10), but the movie was in English with Chinese character subtitles.
