Dec. 7 snowfall at Whistler Blackcomb. Ian Robertson.
There's good news in the mountains. Three and a half inches of snow fell on Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains Saturday night, with another 1.5 inches falling during the day today.  There's currently a base of 20 inches.

Combine that with snow guns transforming more than nine million gallons of water into snow during the past week, and the early season conditions at Whistler Blackcomb are making skiers and riders happy about the winter season ahead.

The big news is the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola Grand Opening on Friday, December 12.  The PEAK 2 PEAK Experience Package offers room and lift from $108 per person per night. And here's another good deal: the Adara Hotel, sister to the swank Opus Hotel in nearby Vancouver, is offering a 3/2 special. Stay three nights between Dec. 19-31, and you only pay for two. Only valid on new bookings.

Whistler Heli-Skiing: On Dec.6, Whistler Heli-Skiing kicked off its 28th season, with 432,000 acres of terrain and heli-ski runs up to 9,000 feet. Fly in a helicopter and be accompanied by an expericed heli-ski guide as you shred untracked powder. Recommended for intermediate skiers and above. That doesn't include me!
