The Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir made an abrupt and surprising move by visiting Eritrea, a country neighboring the Sudan.

The visit was made following the issuing of an arrest warrant made by the International Criminal Court against the Sudanese president. The visit was considered by many, a risky endeavor.

The news came despite several demonstrations throughout the country urging Al-Bashir not to exit the country out of fear that he might be arrested while en route to another country. The visit to Eriteria was not made public before.

According to Musalami Al-Kabashi, the chief bureau of Al-Jazeera in Khartoum, Al Bashir’s move was a way of defying the ICC while proving that its decisions do not dictate Al-Bashir’s actions as president of the Sudan.
