Following President Barack Obama’s statement on Tuesday March the 10th outlining the possible extension of U.S. and international sanctions against Iran, the Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad responded by saying that the measures are “childish”.

President Obama, on several occasions has discussed the issue of Iran and its purported possessions of nuclear weapons.

During his presidential bid, Obama vowed to diplomatically communicate with Iran in order for both countries to reach a consensus on important issues. Obama’s recent statement concerning Iran reinforces the possibility of punitive measures against Iran should it not stop enriching uranium.

The U.S. believes that Iran’s building of nuclear weapons is a precursor of the establishment of atomic bombs. Iran denies these charges.

Iran, on the other hand, hopes to be a recipient of reasonable and change-inducing policies toward the country. Ahmadinejad believes that the sanctions will only create obstacles to Iran’s development as a nation, especially to its oil industry.
Iran is the world’s fourth largest oil producer.
