After limping along for months with an uncertain future, it looks like the final deadline for Stargate Worlds is upon us. "Dead" being the operative word, here - if they don't get the money, MGM is going to kill it.
Brad Wright wasn't too optimistic back in April, and even though there was some fancy footwork from the MMO developers the next day, the fact is the project has been in serious trouble since last December when the cash flow apparently stopped flowing. Employees were working for free. I can't link to my own news coverage of that story, because the company I was writing for at the time hasn't paid its bills for an even longer stretch of time than CME's delinquency and the server is locked.
But I still wanted to believe everything would be okay. The MMO industry is quite small and I had several friends on the team. I love the license with a mad passion, and think it was tailor-made for an MMO in a way that few sci-fi licenses really are. So my fingers are crossed - and I hope that this project can rise again.
