Blind Industries and Services of Maryland (BISM), a nonprofit created by the Maryland General Assembly in 1908, is now into its second century. I believe this unique organization has a compelling and timely story to share in today’s depressing economic times. BISM is hiring, training, and growing!

The greatest problem faced by people who are blind is not their physical lack of eyesight, but the limiting beliefs society holds about their abilities. With quality training, self-confidence and opportunity…THE SKY'S THE LIMIT!

Blind Industries and Services of Maryland (BISM) is the largest employer of blind and low vision people in the state, with high quality manufacturing facilities in Baltimore, Salisbury, and Cumberland. With a total organization workforce that exceeds 450, nearly seventy five percent of the individuals on the manufacturing floors are blind or low vision. We make more than 150 different products including paper writing pads; various clothing items, tote bags, medical soft goods; and produce a full line of janitorial and sanitation products.

In addition, BISM provides the only state based blindness and low vision rehabilitation and training services to prepare blind and low vision Marylanders, of all ages, for the everyday challenges of family, work, and home. Please note that all of the blindness rehabilitation instruction we provide is free of charge! Part of the expense for our Rehabilitation Division is paid by the state, but with a shrinking budget we continue to make up the difference so that a steady number of blind individuals continue through our doors for training in all three cities.
