ARTSFEST Gallery 94124 (Fairfax St. between third and Phelps, Bayview): Tomorrow, Saturday June 6 from 11am–5pm, Fairfax Street between Third and Phelps will come alive with MUSIC, ART, and FUN at the second-annual ARTSFEST, a fun-filled street fair hosted by ART 94124. This year's festivities will feature a great line-up of diverse music, dance performances, a drum corps, artist booths, art-related vendors and other retailers, info tables from various community groups, art activities for children, a silkscreen demonstration, chalk drawing, and food.
City Art Cooperative Gallery (828 Valencia St.): City Art again devotes its back room to a "Queer" show. Member artists have been invited to interpret the theme as broadly as possible. In addition to work by queer-identified artists, we will showcase work that touches on the meanings of "queer" as anything odd, out of the norm, nonconformist, weird, bent, unusual, or alternative. Subterranean Arthouse (2179 Bancroft Way, Berkeley): Flying Kiteman. For the entire month of June, 2009 there will be the first group art show presented at the Subterranean Art house in Berkeley, curated by Yukako Ezoe Onodera and Ryoji Kajikawa. The show will showcase over 40 local artists from the Bay Area. The main subject of the show will be ‘kites’ hung as installations from the ceiling crafted by many artists. One of the star kite pieces made by Ryoji Kajikawa will have a projection of a film on it. There will also be a variety of mediums presented; photos, paintings, drawings, and video, related to the feeling of kites on the wall.
LGBT Center: Bi-licious returns to the National Queer Arts Festival to showcase
bisexual writers, performers and activists through a playful mix of
serious issues and entertainment. Audience participation is encouraged
during an interactive panel discussion immediately following the show
with the Bi-licious writers, performers and activists.
Cantina SF (580 Sutter St.): Babylon Salon, San Francisco's rollicking reading and performance series, presents poet JOSEPH LEASE. Additional performances by Victoria A. Hudson, reading from Powder: Writing by Women in the Ranks from Vietnam to Iraq; and emerging Bay Area writers Amy Burkhardt and Lauren Becker. Meet John Peck, editor of the artsy, zany "Beeswax Magazine" and Mary Suddaby, who will read from its pages. 7 PM.
