The legal question of graffiti for art's sake has been making headlines of late especially in light of Shepard Fairey's snafu not only with the police department in Boston but also over copyright issues with the AP.

Moose, an artist who is the subject of the documentary The Broadway Tunnel Project by Doug Pray, has found a way to get around the stigma of graffiti and promote "green art": using a natural, biodegradable cleaner by Green Works, Moose polishes away caked-on dirt and grime on surfaces to lift images out of the negative space.

Check out the website for more stills and clips from the documentary.

Though Moose's work treads some inconclusive legal ground, his reverse graffiti project innovates the street art genre and brings a fresh ideas to a contested form of art.

Thanks to Brittany of Weinstein Gallery for tipping me off!
