Deemed a "model grassroots program" by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Kearny Street Workshop has been providing a voice and vehicle for creative expression in the Asian American Community since 1972. A non-profit group, KSW has relocated several times over the years and yet, despite their constant state of flux (the blight of many non-profit arts organizations) and finite financial resources, its continuity and influence certainly speaks to KSW's enduring community support and the significance of their programming.

Asian Americans form a small, marginalized, sector of the art and literary world but have risen steadily in visibility and recognition in mainstream scenes. Without a doubt, KSW has been instrumental in facilitating the increasing visibility of Asian American artists and writers in the bay area since the organization's inception.

KSW offers writer's workshops, sponsors local events including the annual San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival, provides a venue for performance space, spearheads mural projects, Art classes, and lectures.

Check out their website for more information and to sign up for their Writer's Workshop.
