Hayden Herrera, art historian, curator of the Frida Kahlo exhibition at the SF MOMA, and prolific Frida Kahlo biographer will be speaking about the legacy of Kahlo tomorrow night (Thursday, September 25th) at 6:30 PM at the SF MOMA. The foremost authority on the work of Frida Kahlo, Herrera's book Frida, brought Frida Kahlo's work and life story to international attention. Her book has also since become the basis for the 2002 biopic Frida, starring Salma Hayek and Alfred Molina.
I spent the greater part of my spring quarter in college writing my thesis about Frida Kahlo and became very familiar with many of Herrera's publications. I highly, highly recommend getting tickets for the keynote lecture--and hurry before they sell out, as her lecture at the Tate Modern in London sold out quickly. Also if you can't make the lecture, stop by sometime this weekend to see the show before it closes this Sunday.
To sum up, Hayden Herrera is kind of a big deal...and in my mind, an art history rock star (hall of fame, even)! As you may have already noticed, I am a big, fat art history nerd and I will most definitely be there with my copy of the biography hoping to get a signature at the book signing.
See you there!
