How much money is enough money? And how many people does one need to swindle before enough is truly enough?
The Madoff scandal is indeed one of the most shocking in American history. While he tries to plead with the judge to give him a short, 11 year sentence for all the lives he destroyed, his wife has agreed to keep $2.5 million that her husband stole and to back off of trying to hold on to the remaining $80 million of assets.
There is a bigger question here, however. Where exactly did Madoff stash the billions? And furthermore, why is there any talk of deals at all when Madoff is refusing to give any indication of where he is hiding people's money?
The settlement with the U.S. attorney's office in Manhattan was approved late Friday by U.S. District Court Judge Denny Chin, who is scheduled to sentence her husband, Bernard Madoff, on Monday in a final courtroom stand that will seal his legacy as one of the world's most successful thieves.
