I will miss Borders Bookstore when it finally closes. Personally, I visit the one at White Flint mall regularly. I love the atmosphere. I can just lose myself in the books and magazines there. In fact, when I'm there I feel transported into a land of books and honey.

Why are Borders Bookstores closing? Well, they were hit by the recession just as Eddie Bauer was. These institutions that we never imagined would someday go away are in fact closing down and it's sad. At least to me:

For the full year 2008, Borders lost $157 million on revenue of $2.8 billion. Borders recently extended its $42.5 million senior secured term loan with Pershing Square Capital Management, moving the due date to April 1, 2010. That may be the day that Borders goes away. Border’s shares trade at $1.47, down from a 52-week high of $8.02.
